About Darwin Catalinas
Four Catalina flying boats of the US and Australian air forces were moored in the inner harbour when Japanese fighters attacked. All four were destroyed by strafing fire and sank at their moorings. Today the aircraft sit in 5 to 15 metres of water, with engines, hull frames and wing sections recognisable. The shallow depth makes them the most accessible of the Darwin wreck sites and the only group routinely dived by less experienced divers.
