Port Stephens, NSW
Coastal steamer that foundered in a gale in May 1903, upright on sand just north of Cabbage Tree Island off Port Stephens. Intact outline, engine, boiler, stern and an open forecastle.
Visibility at SS Oakland Wreck typically ranges from 7 to 18 metres, though it shifts with swell, wind and recent rainfall. Calm seas offshore; boat trips depend on swell and wind generally offers the best conditions for diving here.
