About Governor Island Marine Reserve
The reserve mixes granite walls, swim-throughs, caverns and sandy bommies between 5 and 40 metres. North of the island a pinnacle rises from 35m to within two metres of the surface; offshore, two 10m bommies stand on a 40m sand floor. Winter visibility regularly hits 20m, exceptional for temperate water. Charters operate year-round from Bicheno.
