The island is riddled with surge-prone caves and overhangs that begin around 20m and run deeper into darker chambers. The fur seal colony is curious and active around divers. Permission may be required from Parks and Wildlife; the site is only diveable on calm days.
Visibility at Ile des Phoques typically ranges from 10 to 20 metres, though it shifts with swell, wind and recent rainfall. January to April, calm seas only generally offers the best conditions for diving here.
